Chandigarh July 30, 2016 : The first two-week UK Generation Study India Programme jointly organised by Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and British Council, U.K. titled ‘Gender and GenderRelations in India’ which commenced on July 18 concluded today. The programme was
organised at the Seminar Hall of the Department cum Centre for Women’s Studies Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU in his concluding address of the
programme observed that the first batch of participating students from U.K. were
greatly enriched by participating in the programme. He wished the participants well
and invited them to visit India again. He also hoped that this programme will usher
in the organising of many such programmes in future.
Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International Students (DIS) in her address expressed that
Panjab University, Chandigarh has come off age by hosting the two-week UK Generation
Study India Programme on gender and gender relations in India. She congratulated the
students on coming out of their comfort zones and learning about the gender issues
and culture of India.
Dr. Ameer Sultana, Chairperson, Department cum Centre for Women’s Studies &
Development, PU was of the opinion that in the programme, the participants had
first-hand interaction with women at the ground level. She hoped that the batch of
27 students will remain associated with the Department cum Centre for Women’s
Studies & Development in future also by enrolling in doctorate or other programmes.
She wished good luck to the participants.
Ms. Tanisha Chara from British council opined that the programme was effective in
inculcating the understanding of Indian cultural ethos and gender issues among the
participants.
