The four day National Theatre festival- 2016 organized by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak akademi concluded with the staging of a historical Urdu play ‘Iffaqat’ by Rang Visharad Natya Sangh New Delhi under the direction of Veena Sharma at the Tagore theatre here today.
The play brought into focus the contemporary political social and cultural scene in India which had been dominated by terrorism, caste prejudices, social disparity, unemployment  causing drug addiction while the leaders or governance is least bothered. The play compares the situation with the times of Moghul invader Nadir Shah‘s arrival and killing of lacs of innocent people in and around Delhi in the seventeenth century  and taking away valuables worth lacs of crores. Earlier akademi chairman Kamal Arora welcomed the chief guest  ShriParimal Rai IAS , Adviser UT Chandigarh and Sh Jitender Yadav,  IAS Director culture who later honoured play director Veena Sharma and her artists. The Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi also felicitated two acclaimed theatre personalities, Prof.Dr CL Ahuja, the eminent drama critic, author and poet and the enterprising theatre director Umesh Kant for their incredible contribution in respective fields. An alumnus of the first batch of PU Indian theatre department Umesh Kant was the first ever recipient of the Punjab state Shiromani Natak kar award, disclosed Kamal Arora. Worthy adviser presented a memento and shawl to each amidst applause. Kamal Arora expressed gratitude to the UT administration, artists and audience for the success of the festival.
