Chandigarh 02 Jan. 2017 : A five days,January 2-6,2017, INSPIRE Internship Camp is started at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. The camp is sponsored by Department of Science and Technology,Govt.of India,New Delhi. More than 150 science students with CGPA 10 of class XI from 20 schools of Haryana and Chandigarh are participating in this camp.
After the Havan in morning, the camp was inaugurated in the college’s mini auditorium by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The Chief Guest of this occasion was Mr. ChanderGaind,Principal Secretary Higher Education,Punjab Prof.DevinderSingh, Registrar,Punjabi University,Patialawas the keynote speaker.Dr. H.R. Gandhar, Advisor to the President, DAV College Managing Committee, Prof. D.V.S. JainProfessor Emeritus PU, Chandigarh, Prof. K.K.Bhasin, Professor Emeritus PU, Chandigarhwere also present on this occasion. Dr. ManjuDewan, Organizing Secretary elaborated about INSPIRE Programe and its relevance in developing scientific temper amongst young students.
In his address Prof. Devinder Singh told students to remain focused on their goals. He advised the students to choose their career according to their interest not out of force.He told that the entomology research has a great potential for research. He told about eight fields of entomology in which research was needed as 50% of insect fauna is still unexplored.
In his address Mr. ChanderGaind, Principle Secretary, Higher Education Punjab hopedthat the Students would be able to benefit from this platform by enlarging their horizons, developing their research ideas and carrying back with them valuable lessons to help build the foundations of a good scientific career.
Dr. B.C. Josan,Principal, told that this for the second time that college is organizing this camp. College has got a grant worth Rs 9.75 lakhs for this camp.It is totally free of cost for interns.
In the afternoon session Dr. Jagbir Singh Kirti, Professor, Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences explained the changing meanings of science. He also talked about the environmental degradation and its impact of human. He spoke on the biodiversity of insects and their importance to life on earth. Dr. A.D. Ahluwalia, Professor Emeritus give his talk on environmental pollution and global warming.
