As many as 2,000 people will run in the second edition of Punjab-Half Marathon-2017 for a cause ‘Say No to Drugs’ on coming Sunday, September 24 in Chandigarh. This mega event is being hosted by the State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh in association with Narcotics Control Bureau and national level Trust Thrill Zone.
Sharing the relevant details about the event P.C. Kushwaha, Founder of Thrill Zone trust said, “The marathon will be kicked off from Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, Chandigarh at 5:30 AM Sharp. There are three different categories. The 21 Km which will see participation from the people of different age group like 18-30, 30-40, 40-50 and above 50. The other two categories of 10 Km and 5 Km are open to all. We have roped in Asian Marathon Champion (1992), Dr Sunita Godara as our Marathon Ambassador”.
 While addressing the media persons here today, Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh said, “Our aim is to sensitize people about the ill effects of drugs through this event. The event will see the participation from various students of law departments, para-legal volunteers, police personnel, UT traffic department, professional runners, and common populace from different cities of India”.          
Adding to it, Kaushtabh Sharma, Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh, said that the younger generation should be saved from the grip of drugs to build a strong nation. He said that they should be taught that they should focus on fitness activities rather than getting addicted to drugs.    
Apart from this, Mohinder Kour Kataria, Social Enterpreneur and Para Legal Volunteer, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh stressed upon the need to educate youth and provide them the right way to live by directing or channelizing their energy in a positive direction.
Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh stated that in order to reduce the crime these types of issues should be raised in the society from time to time. Sh. V K Kapoor, Chief Coordinator NALSA Schemes  focused on the need to work at ground level to supervise the rehabilitation centres in order to avoid the relapse and depressions too.
The run would be flagged off by Balbir Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Chandigarh and Justice Suryakant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court cum Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, UT., Chandigarh would be  the Chief Guest on the occasion and would be distributing the prizes.
