Chandigarh 18th March 2017 : The Music Department of MCM DAV College for Women organized a two-day National Workshop on ‘Interrelation of Vocal and Instrumental Music with reference to technical terms of Indian Music’ that culminated here today. The workshop was conducted under the aegis of Rashtriyta Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyaan (RUSA). Since Vocal and Instrumental Music are incomplete without each other and knowledge of both is essential in order to be a successful musician, the objective of the workshop was to deliberate upon the interrelation between the two and to apprise the participants of the technical terms common to both forms of music.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of faculty and students from Panjab University, Punjabi University and Delhi University as well as from colleges across the tricity and Punjab. During the inaugural session, Dr. Simmi R. Singh, Head of Music Department, MCM introduced the topic by presenting a paper on the theme and Mrs.Deepa Chhiber, Faculty, Music Department, MCM welcomed and introduced the guests.
On day one, Dr.Nivedita Singh, Music Department, Punjabi University, Patiala underlined the interdependence of vocal and instrumental music and apprised the participants of the terminology common to both. Thereafter, she conducted practical sessions to provide a better perspective to the participants. On day two, Sh.Jagdeep Bedi, a renowned Delhi-based Sitar and Sur Bahar Artist shared valuable insights with the participants about the various aspects of Vocal and Instrumental music during enlightening practical sessions. Dr.Pankaj Mala Sharma, Coordinator, Music Department, PU delivered the valedictory address.
