CHANDIGARH 2nd February, 2017:- The 8th Panjab University Rose Festival is going to be held from 10th-12th February, 2017 under the kind patronage of Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The objective is to spread awareness about the green & clean environment among the general public and to explore the hidden talent of students. During the three days festival, the different competitions will be arranged for different age groups among the School Children, College and University Students. For healthy children, there would be the competitions of three age groups of Rose Prince and Rose Princess.
The staff of Horticulture Division is putting in its best efforts to make this event a success. Prof. R. C. Paul Rose Garden of Panjab University has been given a new look for the festival and the roses are in full blossom. 21 new varieties of roses have been added this year. The new varieties namely Taj Mahal, Love, Paradise, Cricri etc. are adding to the beauty of the garden. Some varities have been procured from Pune.
Other events have also been added this year. Kite Flying show will take place at Gandhi Bhawan in Panjab University.
An art workshop titled “Golshan’ curated by Prof. Tirthankar Bhattacharya will be special attraction during the festival. Eminent artists from the region like Madan Lal, Sadhna Sangar, Anjali Aggarwal, Sanjay Kumar and Shubash Shorey will be part of this exhibition. A three day Exhibition-cum-Workshop on the theme ‘Natural Biodiversity’ to sensitize the audience about the science, climate, environment, biodiversity, nature, flora, fauna etc. will also be there in the festival.
Stalls displaying and selling various products will be put up at the festival. Tau Baljeet from Gohana famous for his jalebis will also be putting up a stall this year.
Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H) and Organiser of the festival has said that the festival this year will be more grand that the previous years.
For the convenience of the general public, cashless facility is being provided for applying for different competitions. Online applications are also being accepted at the website ’www.panjabuniversityrosefestival.in’. Large no. of enquires are entertained daily in the Rose Festival Secretariat at Single Window Enquiry, Panjab University. About 150 participants has already applied for different competitions
