New Delhi, August 19, 2016: Rang-e-Rekhta, hosted by the Rekhta Foundation, is a tribute to the versatility, richness and the timeless beauty of Urdu. In its efforts to keep Urdu vibrant in the public consciousness, Rekhta aims to showcase Urdu’s various facets including Mushaira, Qawwali, Dastaangoi, Plays, Calligraphy & a myriad of other forms, by taking them to various cities for the audiences both familiar and new to the language. Rekhta’s first stop in this endeavor to promote Urdu, will be Chandigarh that has had a respectable following of Urdu and its literary culture.
‘Rang-e-Rekhta’ is an extension of Rekhta Foundation’s flagship festival Jashn-e-Rekhta:Celebrating Urdu, which is held in Delhi annually. The festival celebrates the spirit and eloquence of Urdu language, literature, art and culture and since its debut in 2015, has grown to become one of the largest literary and cultural events with a footfall of 85000 visitors in 2016.
Rang-e-Rekhta Chandigarh will present a Qawwali by the renowned Sabri Brothers and a Grand Mushaira by some of the most distinguished poets of our country such as Waseem Barelvi (Bareilly), Gulzar Dehlvi (Delhi), Farhat Ehsas (Delhi), Rajesh Reddy (Mumbai), Manish Shukla (Lucknow), Liaqat Jafri (Jammu), Nomaan Shauque (Delhi), Shams Tabreezi (Chandigarh), Nashir Naqvi (Patiala), Mahender Kumar Sani (Chandigarh), Shakeel Jamali (Delhi).
At the launch of this initiative, Sanjiv Saraf, Founder- Rekhta Foundation said, “Urdu finds its resonance across the length and breadth of the country. Spurred by the staggering response we received for Jashn-e-Rekhta in Delhi, we feel it is time to reach out to new destinations and showcase Urdu’s various forms to its lovers”
